How do we get started?
The best first step is to contact us and schedule a free consultation. We’ll learn more about your child, answer your questions, and help you decide which service may be the best fit.
Do I need to know which service we need before reaching out?
No. You do not need to know whether music therapy, adapted lessons, groups, or another service is the right fit before contacting us. Tell us what you’re looking for, and we’ll help guide you.
Is there a waitlist?
Availability changes throughout the year and may vary by location, service type, and schedule. If the best option is not immediately available, we can talk through waitlist options or other next steps.
Music Therapy & Adapted Lessons
What is music therapy?
Music therapy is the clinical use of music to support individualized goals. At Sound Starts, music therapy sessions are led by board-certified music therapists and may support communication, social interaction, emotional expression, regulation, motor skills, learning, and participation.
How are adapted music lessons different from music therapy?
Adapted music lessons focus on learning an instrument or building musical skills in a flexible, supportive way. Music therapy focuses on non-musical therapeutic goals, such as communication, regulation, social interaction, or developmental growth.
Does my child need a diagnosis to begin services?
No. Families reach out for many different reasons. Some children have a diagnosis, some are in the evaluation process, and some simply need support with communication, confidence, emotional expression, social skills, learning, or participation.
Sessions & Locations
Where do services take place?
Sound Starts offers center-based services in Frisco, Grapevine, and Prosper, and Plano. We also provide school and community-based services depending on the program and partnership.
What happens during a session?
Sessions may include singing, instrument play, movement, songwriting, musical games, visual supports, routines, and creative music experiences. Each session is adapted to the child’s goals, strengths, interests, and needs.
Do parents stay during sessions?
This depends on the child, service type, and goals. Some children separate easily, while others benefit from caregiver support at first. For Little Jammers, parents and caregivers attend and participate with their child.
Pricing, Payment & Insurance
How much do services cost?
Individual music therapy and adapted music lessons are currently $56 per 30-minute session. Group programs, camps, school services, and facility-based services may have different pricing.
How do payments work?
Autopay with a card on file is the preferred payment method for ongoing services. This helps keep payment simple and allows session time to stay focused on your child’s support. Autopay is processed on the second Tuesday of each month for the previous month’s services.
Do you bill insurance?
Sound Starts may be able to help families pursue out-of-network insurance benefits for music therapy services. Coverage varies by plan, and adapted music lessons are not billed through insurance.
Schools & Community Partners
Do you provide services in schools?
Yes. Sound Starts partners with schools, districts, and educational teams to provide music therapy services, groups, consultation, training, and music-based support.
Can Sound Starts be part of the IEP team?
Our team has extensive experience collaborating with educators, related service providers, administrators, families, and IEP teams. Services may be designed to support student goals, participation, access, and educational needs.
Do you offer presentations or trainings?
Yes. Sound Starts offers presentations and trainings for families, educators, professionals, schools, and community organizations. Topics can be customized based on your audience and goals.
